DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A former Volusia County Sheriff’s Deputy faces several charges after a woman accused him of threatening to arrest her if she did not perform a sexual act on him in Daytona Beach on Monday.
Stephen Corbin, 40, was arrested on two counts each of bribery, battery, false imprisonment and solicitation to commit prostitution.
According to a release from the Daytona Beach Police Department, a woman reported on May 13 that she was approached on South Ridgewood in Daytona Beach by a man operating a marked Volusia Sheriff’s patrol car.
According to a Daytona Beach police affidavit, the first woman said a blonde man pulled over, told her to get into the car and drove around with her in the vehicle, telling her to perform a sexual act. The police report said the woman said when she refused, the man threatened to take her to jail, and he again told her to perform the sexual act. The woman told police the man then grabbed her left arm and pulled it toward his lap but she pulled her arm away, according to the police report. The woman told police she asked to be let out of the vehicle and the man said only if she exposed her breasts, the police report said. She said she did so after the man confirmed he would let her out. She told police he then let her out of the vehicle. She told police that the man was in plain clothes, not in a uniform.
A police investigation confirmed that a VCSO vehicle with a passenger inside had followed the route that the victim described, according to the report. Police identified the suspect in the case as Corbin.
A second woman filed a similar complaint.
The Daytona Beach Police Department arrested Corbin on May 15. He has posted bond.
Corbin resigned from his position as a Volusia County deputy earlier this week after Sheriff Mike Chitwood was made aware of the allegations. He had been employed with the agency since 2015.
