DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In Daytona Beach, hundreds of thousands of people are getting ready to rock.
Welcome to Rockville is back at the Daytona International Speedway and organizers say they are expecting 200,000 people to attend the music festival, which kicked off Thursday and runs through Sunday.
At Houligan’s, employees said they were ready to handle the crowds.
“People come, people go, people show up later, we get waves of people coming in,” general manager Kadeem Whyte said.
With five locations throughout Volusia County, Whyte said their location is the spot to be.
He said he expects to see a revenue increase of 25-30% more than what they usually see on a typical weekend.
“We’ll see an influx of business, tourists coming into town," Whyte said. "Bike Week, the Daytona 500, it’s advantageous for us to be located in such a great proximity to the speedway."
At Tiano’s Cucina Italiana, workers were also handling the rush.
“We have the Daytona 500 of course, the Rolex, Rockville — they’re all really big events for us so we’re used to accommodating large crowds and high volume,” server Stacy Sweet said.
She said the people who work at the restaurant have been there for a long time, and are ready to keep welcoming people all weekend long.
“We’re able to give people really good service and really good food all of the time,” Sweet said.
And the economic impact of the festival is expected to top $80 million.
“Those are dollars that come into the community from outside, international some of these folks, who are seeing our area for the first time ever, spending those dollars,” said Lori Campbell Baker, executive director of the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Due to the heat, attendees will be allowed to bring empty containers for water, like a Camelbak, that they can fill up at the event. Organizers say free water will be given out as well.
