There are worries over privacy, property value and traffic.
If the plan goes through, some who live on the former Majors Golf Course say they will also be forced to move.
It’s not the first time residents have pushed to stop development as two years ago the owner looked to turn the property into some 360 homes, which sparked public outcry.
After an over 3,000 signature petition, a rezoning request was denied, and the land wasn’t developed, but the course is now overgrown and unkept.
A new proposal called Eden at Bayside Lakes would build more than 700 homes, townhomes and apartments.
Stephanie Taylor says she and her family have no plans to leave their golf course home of 18 years, but if the development gets the green light, they’d have no choice but to move.
“It would just change the whole atmosphere, it would change all of Bayside Lakes. For several reasons, it would be overcrowded. It’s already too crowded at Publix right now,” she said.
The city of Palm Bay says the developer has submitted plans for Eden at Bayside Lakes, but a discussion of the proposal is pending.
A group called Concerned Bayside Lakes Citizens is holding a meeting at the former Majors Golf Club clubhouse March 28 at 5 p.m. to learn more about the potential development.
