ORLANDO, Fla. — Cold weather shelters opened Tuesday night in some Central Florida locations because temperatures dropped into the 40s and even 30s in some places. Those shelters will open again Wednesday night. 

Brevard County

  • LifePointe Ministries at 4220 South Hopkins Ave. in Titusville will open an inclement-weather shelter at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
    • The shelter will close at 10 a.m. Wednesday but then reopen again at 5 p.m. Wednesday until 8 a.m. Thursday
    • Dinner and breakfast will be served.

Flagler County

  • The Sheltering Tree will open its cold-weather shelter in Bunnell on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Rock Transformation Center (formerly Church on the Rock) not only for the homeless, but for anyone who is without heat. 
  • Rock Transformation Center is located at 2200 N. State St.. The cold-weather shelter will open at 5 p.m. and will close at 8 a.m. the following day.
  • The county will provide bus transportation along two routes, following the schedules below.
    • On the eastern side of the county:
      • Dollar General at Publix Town Center on Market Avenue (leads to Dollar General), 3:30 p.m.
      • McDonald’s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100 at the dirt road on the east side, 4 p.m.
      • Dollar Tree behind Carrabba’s in the Dollar Tree parking lot, 4:30 p.m.
      • Palm Coast Main Branch Library, northwest corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway, 4:45 p.m.
    • On the western side of the county:
      • Dollar General at County Road 305 and Canal Avenue in Daytona North, 4 p.m.
      • Bunnell Free Clinic, 703 Moody B.vd., 4:30 p.m.
      • First United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine Street, 4:30 p.m.

Volusia County

  • People without an adequate heating source at their residence or who are without housing are encouraged to seek shelter through one of the following community organizations. Individuals requiring transportation assistance to these shelters should contact the organization on their side of the county for arrangements.
    • On the west side, Neighborhood Center's The Bridge, located at 421 S. Palmetto Ave. in DeLand. Guests should arrive between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. For additional details, call 386-734-8120 ext. 601.
