ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Police Department is warning residents of “bank jugging” crimes across the city. Police say they’ve seen a major uptick in cases this year.
Police say bank jugging is a vehicle burglary where the victim is watched and targeted after withdrawing money from a bank.
Since March, victims in the region have lost more than $100,000 combined, police say.
Orlando police arrested a convicted felon this week accused in two bank juggling cases from April and May. Police say Shawn Glenn Sr. allegedly targeted two victims in Orlando, including a 90-year-old man, and stole thousands of dollars from vehicles. Glenn faces several charges, including burglary and grand theft.
The department also issued arrest warrants this week for two 24-year-old men suspected in a bank jugging case from May. Police say the alleged suspects smashed the victim’s car window and stole an envelope containing several thousand dollars.
The Orlando PD is sharing tips to protect people from bank jugging crimes:
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Hide your cash before walking out of the bank.
- Be on the lookout for anyone you believe might be following you.
- Try to go directly to your final destination.
- DO NOT leave cash in your vehicle.
