Bruce Vaughn will return to Walt Disney Imagineering on March 20 as its new chief creative officer. Vaughn will co-lead the division, which is responsible for designing and building theme parks and attractions, alongside Barbara Bouza, the current president of Walt Disney Imagineering.
“I’ve remained an Imagineer at heart, so I’m thrilled to join Barbara and reunite with this phenomenal global team of creators and innovators during this pivotal time,” Vaughn said in a statement.
Vaughn worked at Disney for more than two decades before leaving the company in 2016 to head Dreamscape Immersive. Most recently, Vaughn was an executive with Airbnb.
In a memo to employees, Disney Parks chairman Josh D'Amaro said Vaughn and Bouza will work together on projects, highlighting a focus on creativity.
"With significant developments under way and more on the horizon, this dedicated focus toward creativity and innovation will help us deliver next-level experiences well into the future," D'Amaro wrote.
D'Amaro added that the pair will also be working to "swiftly identify the most effective way to structure Imagineering."
In the last few years, a number of longtime Imagineers have left the company, including Joe Rohde, Kevin Lively and Bob Weis, who retired in January after 42 years with the company.
