MADISON, Wis. — The City of Madison said the snow emergency continues tonight, Friday, Feb. 10.

Alternate side parking rules are in effect for the next two evenings in the entire city. This includes the snow emergency zone. City officials said this will allow space to clear the roads.

City officials said if possible, Madison residents should try to avoid parking on the street altogether, as this will allow plowing operations to be “safer, faster and more complete.”

Those who need to park on the street from Friday evening into the early morning hours on Saturday must park on the odd numbered side of the street from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Those who violate the parking rules can receive a snow emergency ticket for $60 and may be towed. If a vehicle is towed, drivers will have to pay an additional $65 towing fee.

During snow emergencies in Madison, drivers can park in the cashiered sections of city-owned ramps downtown free of charge from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Charges will be made for those parking outside of those hours. Those who choose to park on the ramps cannot park on the top level, to ensure it’s clear for plowing.

Vehicles that are left on a city ramp for more than 48 hours could be ticketed and towed.

The city said parking is also available at the Brittingham Park Shelter lot.

Daytime parking restrictions are still in place and must be followed. Drivers should also follow any posted parking restrictions. Those found in violation could also be ticketed and towed.

Additionally, city officials said residents should not place trash and recycling carts in the street gutters.

“Carts are an obstruction for plows as they work to clear snow from the roads. Collection carts should be in your driveway apron or on a cleared area of the terrace,” officials said.
