ORLANDO, Fla -- Homeowners that lost access to water as a result of damage from hurricanes Ian or Nicole could be eligible for FEMA assistance, according to a release published Tuesday.

What You Need To Know

  • Damage to wells and septic systems as a result of hurricanes in Florida could be covered by FEMA

  • Well and septic system damage is considered uninsurable, meaning FEMA could be the only option for relief

  • Applications for damage related to Hurricane Nicole ends February 13, 2023

Well and septic system damage is not considered an insurable item, meaning that Florida residents could be on the hook for covering those damages themselves.

In addition to potentially paying for repair or replacement costs FEMA may reimburse homeowners for a technician estimate detailing repair or replacement costs affiliated with the damage.

Although the application for FEMA assistance has already closed for damage that occurred during Hurricane Ian, the administration urges homeowners to call to appeal your existing decision to add in well or septic damages.

Homeowners with damage from Hurricane Nicole located in Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Putnam, St. Johns, and Volusia counties have until February 13 to finalize their applications on FEMA’s website.

FEMA urges residents to call the helpline at 800-621-3362 to schedule an inspection of the property In question.
