BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Today’s Everyday Hero who once fed the famous is now feeding the homeless.

Stanley Sasko began cooking at 13-years-old and served in the Navy as a chef for 19 years. He cooked and catered for White House and military dignitaries, even serving up meals for a rock band later on.

“Anytime I’m working with food, there is an art to it. I want it to be picture perfect,” he said.

However, he put down his chef’s apron to do something different. For the past 25 years, Sasko has worked as a tow truck driver, hauling away cars.

Deep down, he missed the kitchen, the food and the passion for feeding others.

Now, instead of cooking for the top brass, Sasko cooks for those who otherwise would go without.

Every Wednesday, he prepares 50-60 meals for the homeless.

“It’s unfortunate I can’t do it every day of the week,” he said. “But knowing that someone is going to have a full stomach tonight it will keep them out of trouble.”

After Sasko cooks the meals, volunteers head out to the streets to hand them out to those in need, like Derek Collins.

Collins has been homeless for three years, battling addiction, but hopes to find a place to live soon. He said having a hot dinner means the world to him.

“It does make a difference that it’s a warm meal,” he said. “I thank God that somebody actually cooked it. Not to have anything to eat, that’s the difference.”

Sasko relies on donated food to cook for the homeless and hopes to keep it going.

“Once they’ve delivered, I’m done, until next week. And we do it again,” he said.
