WINTER PARK, Fla. — A spot in Winter Park deemed by some as the “Spookiest Coffee Shop in Winter Park” is open all year, but especially this time of year, it makes for the perfect stop to get you in the Halloween spirit.

What You Need To Know

  • Prometheus Esoterica in Winter Park is full of oddities and a spooky atmosphere

  • The spot is owned by Whitney Hayes and her husband

  • The shop features unique, strange items from around the world

  • People can come in to see the antiques and enjoy coffee or tea

Lights flicker and jack-o'-lanterns line the walls, adding to the spooky atmosphere inside Prometheus Esoterica.

A husband and wife have filled the spot with mystery and their favorite oddities from around the world.

“He (husband) was on a tour with his band and in New York, he came across a shop that was kind of a spookier shop, and he was trying to explain it to me. And I told him, ‘How cool would it be if we took all the spooky thing you loved and all the weird things I loved and put it together and just made our own fun shop for everyone to enjoy?’ And it kind of just snowballed from there,” co-owner Whitney Hayes said.

From there, Hayes and her husband's love of all things strange and dark blossomed into the store they currently own in the heart of Winter Park.

Within the walls of their shop, you can find just about any oddity you might want to see hiding on their shelves. They even have preserved specimens for you to observe, or even buy if that's your cup of tea.

And speaking of tea and coffee, the insanely unique spot also doubles as a coffee and tea shop. People can come in to check out the eclectic antiques and sip on their favorite horror-themed cup of coffee or tea.

“The people we buy from have all different types of flavors,” Hayes said. “They even have different ones for the different seasons so we are constantly changing things up."

So, take a step into the Hayes’ world of everything dark, mystifying and odd at the Prometheus Esoterica.

“It's constantly changing here,” Hayes said. “We have something new every single day, so it's never a dull moment," Hayes said.

Prometheus Esoterica is open Wednesday through Sunday and closed on Monday and Tuesday. For a list of hours, upcoming events and more news on this spooky spot, check out their Instagram page.
