The Hillsborough County School Board voted Tuesday to retire the school’s "Chiefs" mascot and become the Chamberlain "Storm."
The board voted 5-1 on the measure to adopt the new name, which was selected by students earlier this month.

The move comes after there was a push by a Native American Parents’ Organization to move away from racial stereotypes.
When the change was proposed earlier this year, many alumni leaders opposed it, arguing Chiefs was a term of respect and not insulting.
With the change, the East Bay High Indians in Gibsonton remains the lone high school with a Native American mascot.
East Bay High officials used a similar process as Chamberlain last year to see if a mascot change was needed, but decided against it.
