PUERTO RICO — Hurricane Fiona ravaged the already vulnerable island of Puerto Rico on Sunday, causing damage the governor described as “catastrophic.”
What You Need To Know
- Fiona became the sixth named storm in the Atlantic on Sept. 14
- It is the third hurricane of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season and the first major hurricane
The blow from Fiona was even more devastating because Puerto Rico has yet to fully recover from Hurricane Maria, which killed nearly 3,000 people and destroyed the power grid in 2017. Five years later, more than 3,000 homes on the island still have blue tarps for a roof.
Many people on the island remain without water service or power.
While a massive cleanup operation begins for the U.S. territory, Spectrum News reporters and photographers are on the island, getting a firsthand look at what Hurricane Fiona left behind.
