COCOA, Fla. — A child died Friday night after a house fire that broke out in Cocoa, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.
Brevard County Firefighters were called to a home on Kathi Kim Street in Cocoa where they were told a child may still be inside.
Neighbors like Cynthia Ridolf ran outside in a haze during the house fire and reflected on what happened.
"I called 911 but I saw the cop cars here and the smoke all over the place," she said. "Then a firefighter was carrying a child and they laid him down here and started doing CPR on him right away."
A spokesperson with Brevard County said that rescue units were able to pull the child from the flames and was transported to Rockledge Regional Medical Center in serious condition. The child later died from their injuries.
"It's just heartbreaking," said Ridolf.
Officials have not released the age of the child.
The cause of fire is unknown and is still being investigated.
