ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Lake Brantley's outside hitter Sarah Gooch is one of the best players in Florida and will be playing at the next level at a Big 12 school — West Virginia University.
"When I visited, it felt just like home. I like the people, it was everything I was looking for in a school," said Gooch.
"I thought West Virginia is getting amazing player, a dynamic player," said Coach Allan Knight. "A huge asset who I think can contribute as soon as she steps on campus. Sarah is amazingly well rounded, a dominating player just about every category in volleyball. Everything is possible with her."
Sarah has been playing the sport since she was 8 years old and the team aspect is what she enjoys the most about the game.
"I just love that you have teammates that can rely on you and you can rely on them for encouragement. It’s just really fun to have people that you love, playing the sport that you love," said Gooch.
Last year's team lost in the playoffs to state runner-up Windermere, but are hoping to go further into the playoffs this year.
"Hoping to win states but also just to have fun and relive the last couple of games with my friends and the seniors," said Gooch
"We lost some crucial pieces last year and gained some crucial pieces and some very young talent as well so I think we will be in position to be as strong," said Knight.
Lake Brantley begins its season at home against their rivals Lake Mary on Aug. 30.
