OCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Osceola County can get clogged with daily traffic. Now the county wants to make biking a better option for some who want to get around.
What You Need To Know
- Osceola County is extending St. Cloud’s Lakeshore Trail
- The 7 mile extension will connect Lakefront Park to US-192
- The project is expected to be completed in fall of 2023
Right now, crews are working on a new trail project that’ll connect US-192 to East Lake Tohopekaliga in St. Cloud.
“It’s the best cardiac treatment you’ll ever get, and it’s the cheapest cardiac treatment you’ll ever get,” said Jack Smouse of St. Cloud.
Smouse tries to bike 10 miles a day. He’s excited about the new Fortune Lakeshore trail.
“I’ll take it to the end and see where it goes, and see what’s out there, see what businesses are out there, especially restaurants,” he said.
Right now, St. Cloud’s Lakefront Park trail ends near Columbia Street. This project extends the trail 7 miles north of Fortune Road and then west to US-192.
The multi-use trail will be 10-feet wide.
The $9,000,000 project also includes intersection and drainage improvements and a new pedestrian bridge over the St. Cloud Canal.
Work should wrap up in the fall of 2023.
