The Volusia County Council has a plan to possibly implement 10 recommendations over the course of five years to get housing programs in the works soon.

After a recent study, the council says lack of housing is a root cause of poverty in the area.

Of the recommendations listed, some include:

  • Creating an Affordable Housing Trust Fund
  • Creating an Affordable Housing Review Team
  • Creating fee waivers, deferrals and density bonuses
  • Allowing for zoning requirement changes for affordable housing projects
