OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Even though FDOT just opened a new interchange at I-4 and ChampionsGate Blvd., another project still under construction hopes to provide more relief in southern Osceola County.

What You Need To Know

  • FDOT is building an extra lane on I-4 in both directions

  • The additional lanes are between ChampionsGate Blvd & SR-429

  • The $24 million project is set to be complete in the fall of 2024

Crews are building an additional lane on both I-4 west and east between ChampionsGate Blvd. and State Road 429.

This past weekend, FDOT opened a diverging diamond interchange at I-4 and ChampionsGate.

Drivers switch to the left side of the road to reduce the amount of time stuck at red lights. It’s also supposed to reduce the number of left turn crashes.

“I do not think this diamond is going to help the challenge of that build up on I-4,” said Sheena Graham of Davenport.

Graham said she’s looking forward to the extra lanes on I-4 instead.

“That’s what’s really, really going to help,” she said.

An extra lane is also being built on northbound State Road 429 from I-4 to Sinclair Rd.

The goal is to help relieve congestion in southern Osceola County.

The $24 million project is set to be complete in the fall of 2024.
