SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — New ramps to and from a popular Lake Mary road could be in the works for FDOT’s planned improvements to I-4 in northern Seminole County.

  • Initial plans call for new ramps to and from Lake Emma Road in Lake Mary

FDOT is currently studying plans for northern Seminole County, following the completion of I-4 Ultimate work.

The project is called I-4 Beyond the Ultimate.

The early plans call for extending the I-4 Express lanes into Lake Mary and Sanford.

They also show I-4 interchange improvements at US-17/92, County Road 46A and Lake Mary Boulevard.

Near Lake Mary Boulevard, the FDOT plans call for new ramps to and from Lake Emma Road, right next to Topgolf.

“When you get off I-4 and turn onto Lake Mary Blvd, you have to come to Lake Emma,” said Erik DuCharme, Topgolf’s director of sales. “There is no easy way to get there, you have to sit through the light getting off I-4, and you have to sit through the light here at Lake Mary Boulevard and Lake Emma Road."

Ramps to Lake Emma Road may take some of the pressure off Lake Mary Boulevard.

DuCharme says the proposed ramps would greatly help his commute.

But FDOT says the plans are only concepts being considered, and not finalized. The agency is looking at breaking up the Beyond the Ultimate plans into smaller, more affordable projects that could potentially be completed quicker.

Currently the agency is focused on I-4 Beyond the Ultimate projects that are either under construction or in the planning stages at Sand Lake Road, Daryl Carter Parkway, State Road 535 and Champions Gate Boulevard.

North of I-4 Ultimate, in addition to the plans for Seminole County, FDOT is also looking at I-4 improvements in Volusia County, up to State Road 472.
