The organization, established in 1986, is an 89-acre resort in Kissimmee that provides critically-ill children and their families weeklong wish vacations at no cost.
“We’ve had an amazing relationship with Walt Disney World Resort for over 35 years, and this donation on top of the recent $500,000 grant will help us to continue making dreams come true for our very special wish families who visit the Village,” Give Kids the World Village CEO Pam Landwirth said in a statement.
The money was collected from the wishing well near Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom as well as other fountains and waterways around the resort. Disney said it periodically cleans the fountains and collects the coins before donating to local organizations.
In years past, Disney has donated money from the fountains to nonprofits such as the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.
In a post on its official Disney Parks Blog, Disney said the Give Kids The World donation is just one of the philanthropic efforts it has made during its 50th anniversary celebration. The resort has also donated $3 million in grants to six nonprofits in Central Florida, including Boy & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, Heart of Florida United Way and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
