Currently, the gas tax in Florida is 26.5 cents a gallon; in order to suspend that fee for a month, $200 million of federal stimulus would be transferred to areas, funded by gas-tax revenue, in order to offset losing the revenue for a month. That is what lawmakers will vote on soon.
Prices at the pump are fluctuating daily. On Thursday morning, for example, one Colonial Drive station posted a $4.39 per-gallon price. The day before, a different station had posted $3.99 per gallon.
Some drivers, like an Uber and a Lyft worker Spectrum News 13 spoke with back at the beginning of the year as prices began to soar, have expressed the desire to pay no tax for gas.
