SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Many athletes are involved in more than just their sport, but in the case of Jack Klinger, he doesn’t need to toot his own horn to make a big impression.

The senior basketball player manages to balance athletics with much more.

Klinger has been the varsity center at Lake Brantley High School since he was a freshman.

“You get to learn from a lot of different people, which is really amazing because obviously I love to learn about the game and expand my skill set,” said Klinger.

Not only is he the captain, he recently scored his 1,000th point, making him the 3rd athlete in school history to achieve that mark. He attributes his success to his teammates and support system.

“I couldn’t have done it without the help from my friends, family and a lot of coaches, so I’m really thankful for all of them,” said Klinger.

When he’s not on the court, Jack has plenty to keep him busy. The trombone player is Field Commander of the Lake Brantley Band. He’s grateful his coach and band director help him balance his schedule, because they know how important both basketball and band are to him.

“It lets you be creative. It lets you take some stress out of your life here and there. And especially during football season, it’s a lot of fun being up in the stands,” said Klinger.

Building school spirit and also constructing a pergola for his church. Jack earned the highest rank in scouting, completing this Eagle Scout service project.

“It was just something I was really proud to achieve after about ten years of hard work. It was great,” said Klinger. “I felt like I had a lot of knowledge, I felt like I’m really prepared for the professional world as well.”

In the classroom, Jack has a 4.5 GPA, while taking all honors or AP coursework.

“A lot of late nights, I will say. A lot of AP classes will do that to you. But I’m really happy I’ve been able to keep it up all these years because I feel like I’m all the better for it,” said Klinger.

After graduating, the 6 foot 8 student plans to study finance and has dreams of taking his shot in the basketball world.

“To play pro would be my ultimate goal because not many people get to do that and I think that if I keep putting in the work, like I have been, that opportunity will present itself. But I’m going to have to go take it,” said Klinger.
