LAKE ALFRED, Fla. — Nestled away under age-old oak trees in the quaint downtown of Lake Alfred is a small shop straight out of an English fairy tale.
In this week's Florida on a Tankful, Spectrum News takes us inside Lavender and Lace where the owners have brought a little taste of England across the pond.
“Usually the tea steeps in about one to two minutes," said Tabina Bajwa.
The scent of a fresh brewed cup of tea can be intoxicating.
“The colorings, the pairings, it all matters,"
That's something Tabina Bajwa knows first hand, as she's been taking in the scents everyday at her parents tea room, Lavender and Lace, since moving back home from New York about two years ago at the start of the pandemic to help them manage the tearoom after they had to close for several months.
Even through pandemic closures early on, they were able to thrive and now they're back open and serving guests from all over the sunshine state.
“Our family has always been a lover of all things tea and of course global cuisine," Tabina said.
Tabina's family lived quite an adventurous life before settling down in the small town of Lake Alfred. Her father working as a captain for a merchant ship for seven years. During that time, her father and her mother Sarah traveled the world, but their home base was England. That's where she spent many fond hours inside English tea rooms which would later become the inspiration behind Lavender and Lace.
“I had five sisters too, so that also played a part in my love of tea, we would always have tea time together," Said Tabina's mother and owner, Sarah Bajwa.
A love for tea fostered over the years, now the Bajwa family shares that passion with others inside this historic 1920s renovated home in Lake Alfred.
Crafting amazing blends of teas and of course bringing their love and knowledge of global cuisines inside this delightfully English tearoom experience.
Lavender and Lace is closed on Sundays but open the rest of the week from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. They also host private events.
