DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Jan. 6 will mark one year since rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol as the Senate and Congress met to certify Joe Biden's victory in November's presidential election.

What You Need To Know

  • Thursday marks the anniversary of the Jan. 6 insurrection

  • 'Miss Ray' says she believes various groups were responsible for the insurrection, including Black Lives Matter and Antifa

  • Joe Biden won the presidency. Vice President Mike Pence presided over the proceedings for the Senate

Five people died during the violence, lawmakers were forced to flee chambers, and hundreds have since been arrested and charged with crimes. Dozens have been convicted.

Earlier that same day, then President Donald Trump held his "Save America" rally, telling supporters "this year they rigged an election" and urging them to go to Congress to stop the steal.

One year later, many of Trump's supporters continue to see Trump as American's rightful President. Raynetta Dennis, or Miss Ray as she's known, is one of these supporters.

Miss Ray says on January 6, 2021, she flew to Washington D.C. with her 13-year-old granddaughter and others to attend then-President Donald Trump’s “Save America” rally.

“I’m speaking about what Miss Ray felt. Miss Ray felt her voice was taken away. I felt my vote was taken away from me. I felt America got taken away from me," shares Miss Ray.

She showed us the pocket-sized copy of the U.S. Constitution she carries with her wherever she goes. In fact, Miss Ray has a copy in every purse she owns.

“I take this with me. Why? Because a lot of people don’t know what the Constitution stands for and right now our Constitutional rights have been trampled on. Ever since January 6th, no let me take that back, ever since November the 3rd, 2020 we have been trampled on as a nation and as a people. And we’re still getting trampled on! Why? Because this doesn’t matter to a lot of people," explains Miss Ray.

Miss Ray says that's one reason why she flew to D.C. She described the "Save America" rally as love-filled, a far cry she says from the ensuing attacks on the Capitol.

When asked who stormed the Capitol, Miss Ray says various groups were responsible, including Black Lives Matter and Antifa.

We asked Miss Ray what she would want to share with anyone who feels what she is saying is incorrect.

"What I need the American people to see is, what you are doing in the dark will truly come to light," says Miss Ray. "The truth is going to come out what really happened on November the 3rd. And what is that? That Joe Biden is not the president. Joe Biden did not win the presidency.”

Joe Biden won the presidency. Vice President Mike Pence presided over the proceedings for the Senate. On January 7, Pence declared Biden the winner of the presidential election.

That has not stopped Miss Ray's efforts to share her message. In the months since November 3, 2020, Miss Ray and other Trump supporters stand along the sidewalks of Daytona Beach waving flags. She says this past year has solidified her stance.

“It has made me more upset and I’m going to tell you why. A lot of Americans will come out but like they said, a lot of them are fearful to come out and say anything," says Miss Ray. “This is America. American people, we love America. If we didn’t love America, do you think we would be here?”

Earlier this year, the Senate acquitted former President Trump of inciting the U.S. Capitol insurrection. An independent commission is now investigating the January 6 attacks.
