ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – It’s been almost a month since a fire ripped through Webb’s Honey and workers are still cleaning up what’s left of the building.

What You Need To Know

  • Webb’s Honey still recovering from last month’s fire

  • Community has raised $8,000+ to help workers get back on their feet

  • Cause of fire still under investigation

Most of the equipment and stock was destroyed in the fire the day before Thanksgiving, according to Autumn Webb, who helps run the business with her father, David.

The team of six workers are taking the massive undertaking day-by-day. Owner David Webb is trying to see what equipment parts he may be able to salvage.

Autumn set up a temporary storefront to sell the honey and other products that survived the fire. She also set up an online fundraiser, where community members have donated more than $8,000 to help the workers get back on their feet.

She said some folks even stopped by to drop off checks, and that the money is helping with payroll.

“We’re out here in the middle of nowhere, sort of away from the city and stuff, but all these people that are coming out us — it’s really a reminder we are a part of a community,” Autumn said.

David doesn’t know whether they’ll rebuild or move somewhere else, but he’s optimistic for whatever is to come.

“If you’re a beekeeper you’re optimistic, because otherwise you’d be something else,” he said. “You have to be optimistic to be a beekeeper.”

The state fire marshal’s office is still investigating what caused the flames to break out. The shop had been closed ahead of the holiday.
