It's not a job just for old white men anymore. Disney park guests are being greeted by Santas in Florida and California who may look a little different than in years past.
But while the recent trend of Black men portaying Old Saint Nick has been welcomed by many as an inclusive addition to the holiday spirit, others have greeted the change with heated debates — and violent threats.
This special Justice for All presentation explores the history of Santa Claus and addresses the current controversy head on.
Guests:
- Dion “Santa Dee” Sinclair, “The Real Black Santa”
- LaTanya Newell, Event Manager for St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce
- Terri Lipsey Scott, Executive Director of the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum in St. Petersburg
- Dr. Kyaien Conner, Assistant professor of mental health law and policy at USF
