ORLANDO, Fla.  — Disney has paused its vaccine requirement for its Florida employees following legislation passed this week that limits vaccine mandates in the state.

What You Need To Know

  •  Gov. Ron DeSantis recently signed legislation that limits vaccine mandates in the state

  •  Disney announced in July that it would require its salaried and non-union U.S. workers to be vaccinated

In a statement to Spectrum News, a Disney spokesperson said that the company believes its decision to require vaccines has been the right one.

“We believe that our approach to mandatory vaccines has been the right one as we’ve continued to focus on the safety and well-being of our Cast Members and Guests, and at this point, more than 90 percent of active Florida-based Cast Members have already verified that they are fully vaccinated,” the statement read.

The spokesperson added that Disney will “address legal developments as appropriate."

Earlier this week, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation that puts new restrictions on COVID-19 vaccine mandates imposed by employers.

As part of one of the bills the governor signed, private businesses are prevented from imposing COVID vaccine mandates unless they provide certain exemptions.

Also, businesses that fire employees over vaccine mandates can face fines.

In July, Disney announced it would require salaried and non-union hourly U.S. employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. A month later, it reached a deal over vaccine mandates with the Service Trades Council Union, the largest union group representing its workers.
