SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A 15-vehicle accident on State Road 417 Saturday night snarled traffic and resulted in six people being transported to hospitals, the Florida Highway Patrol said Sunday.
A 2017 Volkswagen Jetta driven by an 18-year-old from Palm Coast and a 2012 Chevy Cruz driven by an 18-year-old from Orlando crashed while traveling southbound on SR-417 near the State Road 434/Red Bug Road exit, authorities said. After the initial crash, 13 other vehicles crashed in a chain reaction-type wreck, authorities said. In all, 24 people were involved in the crash.
Both drivers in the initial crash were transported to the hospital. Each driver provided a different account of what happened and said the other driver was driving aggressively toward them, the FHP said.
Traffic in both directions was shut down temporarily. The southbound lanes of SR-417 remained closed until 1 a.m. Eastern Time while authorities cleaned up the scene.
Charges will be pending after the investigation is complete, the FHP said.
