Two Central Florida school districts facing fines over their mask mandates responded to an order from Commissioner Richard Corcoran and the State Board of Education Thursday.
Brevard and Orange counties had been given 48 hours to comply with Florida Department of Education guidelines by allowing parents to opt their students out of the face covering requirement for any reason.
Part of the order sent on Tuesday said if the school boards don’t comply, the state will start withholding funds equal to the school board members' monthly salaries. Both districts met Thursday’s deadline and responded to Corcoran with a letter outlining the current salaries of their respective school board members.
Neither letter addressed whether the school districts in Brevard and Orange counties would be complying with the state’s mask mandate.
