STATEWIDE — The Florida Department of Health is investigating more than 100 businesses, venues and government agencies for potentially violating the state’s ban on so-called COVID-19 vaccine passports and has even issued fines to Leon County.

A spokesperson for the governor’s office sent Spectrum News the list of the entities being investigated. Among the local entities under review are the Orange County Convention Center, the Amway Center and the Tampa Amphitheater.

Orange County itself and Mayor Jerry Demings are also listed. The county is mandating vaccines for its workforce.

The state law signed in May bans any business or government entity from requiring proof of vaccination.

Demings said at a press conference on Monday that the county will continue consulting with health care experts to enact policies aimed at protecting people.

“The indication is that the Florida law flies in the face of our Florida constitution and perhaps in the face of common sense,” he said.

The Orlando Sentinel, which partners with Spectrum News 13, first reported the list of entities being investigated, saying the Department of Health released the list after the newspaper’s lawyers contacted the agency.
