Designed for children aged 3-12, Star Wars: Cargo Bay will be an interactive play area where children can learn about the different creatures featuring in the films such as porgs, Loth-casts and worrts. Children will use augmented reality-enabled datapads to track and study the creatures as part of a series of special assignments.
The mission will also include delivering stowaways Rey and Chewbacca back to the Resistance.
Another newly-announced space just for children on Disney Wish will be Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck. The playground will be for younger passengers and feature physical and sensory-style games, crawl-throughs, pipe slides and “busy boxes.” The space will also feature a STEM-focused experience called Minnie’s Captain Academy.
Both Star Wars: Cargo Bay and Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck will part of the Oceaneer’s Club lineup, joining previously announced spaces themed to Disney Princesses, Marvel and Walt Disney Imagineering.
“With even more spaces, stories and characters than ever before, the stage is set for a line-up of truly remarkable new experiences for children aboard the Disney Wish,” said Jim Urry, vice president of entertainment and port adventures for Disney Cruise Line, in a statement. “We’re combining renowned Disney entertainment, expertly developed programming and imaginative storytelling to put kids in the center of their own adventures right alongside some of Disney’s most beloved characters, like Mickey Mouse, Chewbacca, Black Panther, Rapunzel, Belle, Anna and Elsa, and more.”
Disney Cruise Line also shared more details about the ship's dedicated spaces for older children. Edge, a space inspired by chic New York lofts, will be for children aged 11-14, while those aged 14-17 can hang out at Vibe, a space inspired by a Parisian artists’ loft.
The Hideaway will be for both tweens and teens and feature a DJ booth and a dance floor.
Disney Wish is set to sail its maiden voyage June 9, 2022, out of Port Canaveral, Fla. It’s the first of three new cruise ships coming to Disney Cruise Line — all of which will be powered by liquefied natural gas.
