ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The state is dropping in new COVID-19 cases, a good thing, that ranks Florida at 44th in new cases per capita, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) latest data tracker.

What You Need To Know

CDC numbers now point to 3,782 new cases Wednesday; it is quite a difference from late summer, according to data from Orange County. The last time the Sunshine State saw a similar count was mid-July. Then in August, data from the Florida Hospital Association shows hospitalizations surged.

The peak put cities like Jacksonville among the highest in COVID-19 resurgence.

However, the CDC still puts the state in the “high” transmission category, which is why Orange County leaders have warned residents to remain careful and not celebrate victory too soon.

The White House spoke on testing, vaccinations, and boosters on Wednesday and CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky told Americans it is safe to get shots against coronavirus and flu simultaneously.

"Please consider rolling up your sleeves and receiving your flu vaccine alongside your COVID vaccine. It is proven safe and effective to get both vaccines at the same time," she said.

Meanwhile, there is also a noticeable decline in hospitalizations in Florida. Data from the Florida Hospital Association points to this, with a continuing downward curve from its peak at the end of August.
