ORLANDO, Fla. — Daxel Lopez, 57, works out of his own studio located in backyard of his Clermont home.

In that studio, he creates elaborate 3D glass murals and sculptures. But that was not always the case.
Lopez first began his career in Puerto Rico as a trophy maker, but when he moved stateside he began to work on more elaborate designs. He still creates trophies — in fact, he designed UCF’s Pegasus award, Don Quixote award and other trophies.
“I like to, when I go the opportunity to sell something, sell something different,” he said.
His artwork is now on display at the Orange County government building for its Hispanic Heritage Month gallery, Orlando Hospital’s Ocoee Hospital, Winter Garden City Hall and Winter Garden Xobo Gallery.
His Latino Humpty Dumpty piece will be displayed at the Xobo Gallery on October 2.
“(The) inspiration (behind it was) all the Latinos who come to the United States to create the American Dream,” he said.
Lopez uses the casting technique to create his glass artwork. It's considered by some to be the most difficult technique to create glass art.
