APOPKA, Fla. – Hundreds of people gathered at the Apopka Amphitheater Saturday night for a concert to remember heroes of 9/11 – veterans and first responders in New York City and in Central Florida.

People also watched as a painter at the event created a work of art paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those brave men and women who responded on 9/11.

When the September 11 terror attacks happened, Andrew Moschburg was only five years old. He’s well aware, however, of the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women who responded to it.

“I was on United States Air Force base Lakenheath, England,” Moschburg said.  “I was stationed there with my father.”

So he knows what it’s like for family members of service members who put their lives on the line for their country.

“I was always slightly worried for him because he was always deployed and he wasn’t allowed to tell us where he was deployed,” Moschburg said.

So when he was asked to paint a picture showing first responders rescuing someone on 9/11, he was more than happy to do it.

People like Linda Jones, who’s son was also in the Air Force, looked on as Moschburg painted.

“He’s doing an amazing job of capturing the moment of what was such a horrible day for all of us,” Jones said.

“I’m more interested in what people are going to feel when they see the painting, by experiencing the painting,” Moschburg said.

He sees the painting as a tribute to the service of so many – like his father.

“This is a great reminder that even though he’s retired, that no one’s ever going to forget what he did,” he said.

Forget their service – or what happened on that day 20 years ago.

“It’s set here as a reminder so that nothing like this ever happens again.”

Proceeds from the concert will benefit The Central Florida Hope Center, which provides food, job services, free counseling and resources for people who are at risk of becoming homeless.
