VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Volusia County School Board will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday, September 9, to discuss the mandatory face mask policy.

The board voted on Tuesday, August 31, to require masks in schools starting September 7. Officials said a grace period will extend through September 13, for parents to get a doctor's note if they want to opt their student out.
The policy will be in effect until October 15 unless board members make another change during the emergency meeting set for this week.
The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the DeLand Administrative Complex, located at 200 North Clara Avenue in DeLand.
