  • The calls were allegedly made on Jan. 5, the day before the attack on the U.S. Capitol

Jonathan Joshua Munafo is charged with one federal count of communicating a threat in interstate commerce in a case filed by prosecutors in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.

Munafo was arrested somewhere in the Middle District of Florida and briefly appeared before a judge in an Orlando federal court Monday.

A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida described Munafo as suspect linked to the U.S. Capitol attack on January 6.

His name was not listed, though, under the Capitol Breach Cases on the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia’s website on Monday.

During Monday's hearing in Orlando, court observers heard that Munafo struggled with mental-health issues.

Asked by a judge if he was “clear headed” for Monday's proceeding, Munafo said he was.

Federal prosecutors discussed his charge and potential penalties, and the judge in in Orlando sent his case to the Western District of Michigan.

Details of his arrest in the Middle District of Florida were not immediately available.

His case in Orlando was opened and closed Monday.

He is being prosecuted in Michigan.

More than 400 people, many supporters of former President Donald Trump, have been charged in the siege at the U.S. Capitol.

Authorities say attackers were trying to overturn the election of Democrat Joe Biden.

A federal complaint alleges Munafo mentioned the Insurrection Act in his 911 calls to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office in Battle Creek, Michigan.

An investigator listened to three hours of the recorded 911 calls.

Munafo called from a truck stop in Dunn, North Carolina, records say, and told a 911 dispatcher that he knew where she lived and provided accurate information about her mortgage and tax obligations.

He is accused of telling the “dispatcher that he would maim her, kill her, and attack her family if she did not put a deputy or sergeant on the line,” a complaint says.

Munafo is accused of tying up the 911 line for several hours.

“Munafo was evidently aware he was breaking the law, stating, ‘Each one of these calls are gonna be like a charge, right? I’ll never see a judge,’ ” the complaint says.
