LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Orlando City fell short of its goal of winning the MLS is Back Tournament at Disney's Wide World of Sports on Tuesday night as it lost 2-1 to the Portland Timbers.
The Lions had a chance ro make history, jusr one victory away from winning the club's first championship game within Major League Soccer.
But Portland struck first, going up 1-0 in the 27th minute.
Orlando City responded in the 18th minute as Nani found Mauricio Pereya to level the score at 1-1.
In the second half at the 68th minute, Portland found the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
The Lions had one last chance to level the score late in the game, but Kyle Smith could not get his attempt down.
"I hope to our fans, to all the people who trust us from the first day, that they are proud of us because from today, we just be better," Nani said. "And to every team in MLS now, who will face us, they know they will face a strong team."
The season is not over yet, though. MLS continues regular-season play, and the Lions' next match is August 22 against Inter Miami.
