Students there are rehearsing a play called "Ten Ways to Survive Life in Quarantine," a comedy designed for school-aged students living through this pandemic. It’s giving students a needed connection to the arts and fellow students while in-person classes are called off the rest of the year.
“I was so excited and it reminded me of the last play we did, 15 reasons not to be in a play, and I knew this was going to be funny and awesome,” said Heaven King, an eighth grade student at Glenridge Middle School.
And it’s helping them work through this pandemic together.
“They’re just, they’re connecting to it so it makes it more fun for them. And it makes it really cathartic, too, to be able to get out some of these angsty, crazy, stressed out feelings of being trapped,” said Christi Hodges, Glenridge Middle School theater teacher.
“Since this is a pandemic and we’re dealing with this worldwide, I think a lot of people can connect with this show,” said Don Zolidis, who wrote the play. “I love the fact that this play has really captured people’s imagination."
The play, written just one month ago, has now been picked up for around 200 productions around the world.
Glenridge Middle will be performing their version of this play Friday at 7 p.m.
The performance will be held online and is open to the public. Watch it here.
