Michel Herlande, 40, punished the girl on February 7 after she got home by striking her more than 10 times with a computer cord, leaving bruises on her arms and thighs that were visible days later, investigators said.

Herlande was charged with one count of child abuse (domestic violence).

Herlande was booked into the Lake County Jail on Monday and released Tuesday after posting a $2,000 bond, records show.

An investigator with the Florida Department of Children and Families interviewed Herlande, who said she didn’t think there was anything wrong her punishment.

“She also stated that she did this because she did not want the (child) to go to jail and was trying to straighten her out,” the police report said.
