OCALA, Fla. — A 2-year-old in Ocala was hospitalized after being shot accidentally by a sibling, according to preliminary information released by police.

The shooting happened sometime before 1 p.m. Friday at a residence on the 3000 block of NE 21st Street in Ocala.
Responding Ocala police officers found a 2-year-old with a single gunshot wound. The location of the wound was not disclosed.
The tot was "alert, able to communicate and transported to hospital for treatment of injuries," a statement from Ocala Police Lt. Dustin Keuntjes said.
The unidentified child was the only victim.
Police are interviewing witnesses. One of them said it was "an accidental discharge by a juvenile sibling within the residence," the statement said.
The age of the sibling was not released.
"OPD detectives are actively investigating this incident. This is considered an isolated incident with no continued threat to the public," the statement said. "The victim in this case remains in stable condition and is expected to survive their injuries."
Information about the firearm was not disclosed. The statement also didn't explain how the sibling obtained the firearm. The weapon's owner was not named.
No information was released about possible charges.
