COCOA, Fla. — A Brevard County high school chorus is hoping to hit a high note by heading to a New York City event commemorating the 9/11 attacks.

The chorus is representing the state of Florida as its lone singing team, but the trip hinges on a fundraising performance this weekend.
On Friday, the Cocoa High School chorus voices carried in perfect tune at the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse.
They are preparing for what they call a once-in-a-lifetime trip, hopefully heading to sing in the Big Apple on stage at the legendary Carnegie Hall.
"I'm so excited that we have the opportunity to sing in one of the biggest theaters in the whole country," says Cocoa High School Chorus Member Patrick Miller.
There is one low note for the kids — for the past several months, they've been raising money for the trip. It will take $85,000 to send 50 students, along with five chaperones.
So far, their tally is just $60,000.
"I really think with the community support that we have, we are going to make it," said Misty Martinez, Cocoa High School Choral Director.
The group will be performing at the playhouse Saturday afternoon.
If — just if — they get a sold out show, and add a second one, they will make their goal and be able to head to the city that never sleeps.
"We are bringing a lot of hope into this concert tomorrow night, and we need a lot of people to show up,” Martinez told Spectrum News 13.
For chorus member Patrick, who is just a freshman, he sees this as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to sing on a stage like no other.
The Cocoa High School Chorus will perform the National Anthem at next Tuesday's Brevard County Commission Meeting.
At 2 p.m. on August 10, the group will perform in the Historic Cocoa Village Play House. Tickets are $25.
