SAN ANTONIO – Over 50 people were evacuated from a downtown hotel Wednesday morning after a fire spread from the kitchen to air vent.
The Mokara Hotel on Crockett Street was evacuated shortly before 5 a.m. There were an estimated 54 people inside the hotel at the time.
Firefighters say the fire started in the kitchen in the basement of the hotel, spread to an air vent then up to the third floor.
The fire did not spread from the air vent and there was no fire in any of the rooms of the hotel, just smoke.
One person was evaluated as a precaution but no injuries were reported to authorities.
The fire rekindled around 9 a.m. Nearly 60 people were again evacuated.
If you are driving in the area of Crockett and Commerce throughout the morning, expect traffic delays while the San Antonio Fire Department continues to investigate.
