MAITLAND, Fla. — The bicyclist who was struck and killed by an SUV on busy U.S. 17-92 during busy morning rush hour Monday has been identified.

The crash, which happened at about 6:46 a.m., shut down southbound U.S. 17-92 from near the SunRail station to Mayo Avenue.
Maitland Police said the bicyclist was riding toward the SunRail station when he was struck by an SUV near Versailles Drive. "The bicyclist sustained fatal injuries," police said.
The bicyclist was identified later Monday as Dr. Robert T. Dalton Jr., 56, an Orlando Health cardiologist.
"We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Dr. Robert Dalton and extend our deepest sympathies to his wife and children as they face this difficult time," an Orlando Health spokesman said in a release. "Patients, team members and colleagues were all touched by Dr. Dalton’s professionalism, compassion and kindness. Dr. Dalton was an exceptional physician leader throughout our organization and he will be greatly missed and remembered.
No other details, including the make and model of the SUV or the condition of its driver, have been released.
