PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- A small plane crashed near the Spruce Creek Fly-in Thursday afternoon, according to Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office responded to the crash around 1:45 p.m. in the area of Cessna Boulevard.
A single-engine aircraft with two people in it reportedly crashed near the runway and burst into flames. Witnesses pulled the two men out of the plane, deputies say.
Sixty-one-year-old pilot John Wilson of Port Orange was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center and sustained critical injuries.
The 35-year-old passenger Matthew Simmons of Port Orange was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration officials have been alerted of the crash.
No further information has been released at this time.
