Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh on Monday declared a proclamation to make April White Ribbon Campaign Month.
This is the first year the Vera House has done a raising the flag to honor victims of domestic violence.
“We’ve done this every year. Our team gathers together and puts the planning together. This year, we planned to do the flag ceremony and the proclamation from the mayor,” said Karen Benenati, chief human resources officer at Vera House.
The campaign has been ongoing since 1989, said George Kilpatrick, director of prevention education.
“Vera House has taken this mantle up for the past 25 years or so to really bring awareness to this issue of gender-based violence and the role men can play in ending violence,” said Kilpatrick.
Numerous victims were named dedicating the raising of the flag.
The flag is right outside the Vera House at 723 James Street.
