MOUNT DORA Fla. — Mount Dora is described as a quaint and charming town with the feel of old Florida.
The blend of historic buildings and a vast canopy of live oak trees has made the city a favorite among residents and the thousands who visit each year.
When it comes to a good date night, nobody appreciates the experience more than John and Danielle Declemente.
The two wanted to do something different after recently moving to Mount Dora.
“The carriage is beautiful. There are a lot of details. If you look closely,” said John Declemente.
They like the idea of enjoying dinner and drinks while sightseeing.
“It’s quiet. It’s really quiet and comfortable. Nice breeze,” John expressed.
The ride and dine experience is $109 for two adults that includes pizza and wine.
Guests who book a ride with the company can explore the quaint and charming streets of Mount Dora riding in an all-electric carriage minus the horse.
Olde Mount Dora Carriage co-owner Brian Stilke says there are advantages to not using horses on the streets.
“So, we are able to offer a pizza, charcuterie boards, for example. And we won’t have that smell from the horse. We can offer a better smoother ride and safer experience,” said Stilke.
The carriage rides include a guide that will make sure you see and learn about the historic city.
Historic points of interest include a stop at the Mount Dora lighthouse, recognized as an official inland navigation beacon — the only one in Florida.
Co-owner Brittany Jungferman says the carriage rides are about soaking in Mount Dora’s historical feel.
“I just like showing them the town that I live in and love and admire. I love all the history points throughout the town,” Jungferman said.
There are a variety of premium carriage ride experiences, including muffins and mimosas, ride and dine, and a romantic excursion.
There are also several holiday events, including a “Halloween Scareiage Ride” and a “Christmas Lighting Experience.”
Guests can make reservations online at Olde Mount Dora Carriage Company.
