1. Orlando mayor announces local state of emergency following deadly downtown shooting; suspect in custody
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced a local state of emergency for seven days that will end alcohol sales at midnight and place a curfew inside the Downtown Entertainment District from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

2. Grand jury condemns Kissimmee Police Department's 'culture of cover up'
The city of Kissimmee held a press conference this week to present what it called a "roadmap" to address "significant shortcomings" at the city police department.

3. U.S. employers added just 12,000 jobs last month as hurricanes and strikes sharply reduce payrolls
America's employers added just 12,000 jobs in October, a total that economists say was held down by the effects of strikes and hurricanes that left many workers temporarily off payrolls. The report provided a somewhat blurry view of the job market at the end of a presidential race that has pivoted heavily on voters' feelings about the economy.

  • Mount Dora Plant & Garden Fair: Vendors and nurseries from all over the state are getting ready to convene in Mount Dora this weekend to sell a wide variety of Florida native and exotic plants, as well as garden ware and arts and crafts at this annual event. Experts will be on hand to give gardening advice and volunteers will help cart plants to your car. The even will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
