LOS ANGELES — Get out your ice skates and mittens. The Holiday Ice Rink at Pershing Square is returning after a two-year, COVID-induced hiatus. The largest, if temporary, outdoor ice-skating rink in LA opens for business Wednesday and will stay open through Jan. 1.

What is normally a park smack dab in the center of downtown LA has been transformed into a 7,200-square-foot ice skating rink for more than 20 years, drawing more than 54,000 skaters annually.

Skating sessions are 60 minutes and cost $20 for general admission, including skate rental. Lockers cost $5. Skaters are welcome to bring their own ice skates, as well.

For pint-sized skaters less than 4 feet tall, the rink also offers skate helpers for $6. Shaped like polar bears and penguins, they help new skaters balance.

Open daily, rink hours vary. From Nov. 23 through Dec. 16, it is open 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday. From Dec. 17 through Dec. 30, hours are 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Thanksgiving Day hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day hours are 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Private party ice rink rentals are also available on some Mondays and Tuesdays prior to Dec. 13 for $5,000.

The Holiday Ice Rink at Pershing Square is located at 532 South Olive Street in Los Angeles. Tickets are available at HolidayIceRinkDowntownLA.com.
