A construction worker fell into a hole at a construction site along State Road 441 in Lady Lake at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, which led to a frantic recovery effort that stretched into the night, according to a release from Lake County Fire Rescue officials.
It is still unclear what exactly caused the worker to fall into the hole, but it appears a bridge caved in, trapping the worker.
The worker did not survive and that person’s body was recovered just before 3 a.m., Thursday.
The construction worker has not yet been identified.
The fire chief of Lake County Fire Rescue says on behalf of Lake County, they offer their condolences to the family, and their thoughts are with them during this time.
The Lady Lake Police Department is investigating the incident and will work to find out what led to it.
Lake County Fire Rescue, Villages Fire Rescue, Lake Emergency Medical Services, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Lady Lake Police Department were all involved in that recovery effort.
