KISSIMMEE, Fla. — In a couple of weeks, Christmas will return to Gaylord Palms, as will the resort’s holiday ICE! attraction, which will be inspired by “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

What You Need To Know

  • ICE! will return to Gaylord Palms on Nov. 17

  • The theme of this year's exhibit will be "A Charlie Brown Christmas"

  • Artisans from China are at the resort creating the sculptures from two millions pounds of ice

The walk-through exhibit, opening Nov. 17, will feature ice sculptures of Snoopy, Charlie Brown and other members of the “Peanuts” gang.

“What fans will see when they walk in is an ode to the movie,” said Brandon Thom, director of entertainment. “You’ll see different scenes, odes to different scenes throughout the walk.”

About 40 artisans from Harbin, China, are hard at work carving the figures for the exhibit—using chainsaws and hand-crafted tools to chisel away at two million pounds of ice that’s kept at a frigid 9 degrees.

To ensure they get the details for the figures just right, they have scaled drawings to use as a guide.

The artisans began work last month, and now, just a couple weeks in, the attraction is starting to come to life.

“What I’ve been impressed by is how fast they work—how quickly things change in there,” Thom said.

Inside the exhibit space, backdrops for some of the scenes have been carved out. And even some figures of Charlie Brown and Snoopy have been added—although they don’t have eyes just yet.

Snoopy’s red doghouse has been added to some scenes. Another one features Schroeder’s piano.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” was used as a theme for ICE at Gaylord Palms before. But for this year, the layout of the room with the ice slides has been slightly modified.

“The slides are going to look different,” Thom said. “They are actually turned around to where there’s going to be a lot more photo-friendly space to where people can really enjoy watching their friends and family come down the slides.”

At the end of the ICE!, there will be a nativity scene made of crystal clear ice.

Once the exhibit opens, some of the artisans will stick around. The attraction will also include an area where visitors can see the artisans at work.

In addition to ICE!, Gaylord Palms will also have several holiday offerings including the Cirque: Spirit of Christmas acrobatic show, a Christmas tree trail, a light show in the atrium, a Snoopy-themed scavenger hunt and a holiday escape room.

The resort will also offer the Snow Factory, where visitors can make snowballs and go ice tubing.

Christmas at Gaylord Palms will run Nov. 17 - Jan. 3.
