The flamingo chick hatched on May 22 after a monthlong incubation period, the resort said Friday in a news release. The baby is the first for mom Abby.

The chick is on a special diet that’s high in fat and protein to support growth. It’s expected to reach adult size in about four months but won’t be completely pink for another two to three years.

Discovery Cove is asking the public to help name the baby flamingo. The resort has launched a naming contest on its Instagram page. Voting will take place June 24-28.

The announcement coincides with National Pink Flamingo Day.

Discovery Cove offers up-close animal encounters amid a tropical atmosphere of sandy shores, and winding rivers. Admission also includes meals throughout the day.
